Healthcare Dive: Telehealth use increased amid omicron as 2021 drew to a close
According to data from Fair Health, telehealth continued to increase at the end of 2021 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases fueled by the Omicron variant. Telehealth claims measured as a percentage of all medical claims grew more than 11 percent from November to December. Telehealth was increasingly being used to diagnose and treat COVID-19. While projections vary, the majority agree virtual care will persist at higher levels than before the pandemic, and future access and use will depend on a slew of factors, including how many pandemic-era regulatory flexibilities Congress allows once the COVID-19 public health emergency expires.
